Detectives have charged a 42-year-old man with number of offences following an alleged attempted armed robbery of a bank in Tewantin and the unlawful use of a motor vehicle in Noosaville yesterday afternoon.

Police will allege around 1.15pm, the man entered a bank on Poinciana Avenue and threatened staff by claiming to be armed with a firearm before demanding cash.

It is further alleged the man has then taken a sum of cash belonging to a customer and has continued to threaten staff for money. Staff complied with the man’s demands and it is alleged that he then left the bank on foot with a quantity of cash.

Police will allege around 5pm the man has approached an 18-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman who were sitting in a vehicle at a hotel carpark on Gibson Road and has made threats towards them.

The 18-year-old has then exited the vehicle and the man is then alleged to have attempted to drive off in the car with the passenger still in the car.

The 18-year-old man has opened the driver’s door of the car and has attempted using force to restrain the 42-year-old.

The man has then allegedly crashed the vehicle into two parked cars and was detained by the 18-year-old until police arrived.

Police arrested the man and he was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment to injuries received as a result of the incident.

A 42-year-old Noosaville man was charged with one count each of armed robbery, robbery, deprivation of liberty, dangerous operation of a vehicle, assaults occasioning bodily harm, driving a vehicle without a licence, failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, breach of bail and two counts of common assault.

He is expected to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court tomorrow.
