Detectives are investigating the armed robbery of a ride sharing service driver that occurred in Runaway Bay last night.

Around 8.45pm a 39-year-old Carrara woman was parked in her car on Marine Parade at Biggera Waters when a masked man approached and entered the front passenger seat area.

The man was armed with a knife and demanded the woman drive him to Harbour Town.

The woman complied and as they drove along Morala Drive he ordered her to stop and give him money. She handed over a small amount of cash at which time he handcuffed the woman to the car’s steering wheel and searched the car for more money.

The man released her from the handcuffs and demanded she drive again, before ordering her to pull over outside a seafood shop on Frank Street where he then left the car.

He was last seen walking across a playground in the area towards the water.

The woman then drove to a nearby service station and contacted police. She suffered minor bruising as a result of the handcuffing.

The man is described as Caucasian in his early twenties with a fair complexion.

A subsequent search of the area failed to find the man.
