Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged attempted armed robbery in Belgrave South yesterday.

The alleged incident took place at a supermarket on Belgrave-Hallam Road just before 1.30pm.

A white Commodore with allegedly stolen plates was seen leaving the area.

The vehicle was intercepted in a car park off Dandenong Road, Springvale just before 3pm.

The 35-year-old Hampton Park man was arrested and charged with a number of offences, including attempted armed robbery, intentionally cause injury, reckless conduct endangering injury and traffic-related offences.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.

Police are still searching for a second man believed to have been involved in the incident.

He is perceived to be of Pacific Islander appearance and approximately 175cm tall, and was wearing a blue hooded top and tan-coloured three-quarter cargo pants.
