Police are investigating the armed robbery of a service station in Carrara earlier tonight.

Just before 7:25pm, a man entered the business on Elysium Road armed with a hammer.

The man entered the rear counter section while the store employee was busy with a customer, and has opened the cash register and removed a sum of cash.

The man has also taken cigarettes and placed them into a bag before fleeing the scene on foot.

He was last seen walking in a southerly direction on Keller Crescent.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

The man is described as Caucasian and was last seen wearing long dark pants, a black floppy hat, and a bright orange shirt.
