Police are investigating the armed robbery of a coffee shop in Ormeau this morning.

Initial investigations indicate that around 5.30am, a man armed with a small axe walked into the Eggersdorf Road business and approached the cash registers.

He has used the axe to cut through the cords of two registers before taking one and demanding a sum of cash from a female employee, which she complied.

The man then left the business with a sum of cash in a recent model, blue Holden Commodore with distinctive mag wheels.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

The man had his face covered with what appeared to be a white t-shirt wrapped around his face, and was last seen wearing a yellow high-vis vest with long, dark sleeves, dark shorts and tanned work boots with no laces.
