A woman has been charged after a taxi driver was allegedly stabbed in Ashfield overnight.

About 10.15pm (Sunday 27 May 2018), a taxi driver attended Ashfield Police Station on Victoria Street, Ashfield, after he was injured by a female passenger.

Police have been told the incident occurred nearby. The female passenger has allegedly stabbed the taxi driver to the head after attempting to rob him.

The taxi driver, a 50-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for a wound to the head before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition. He has since been released.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command have established a number of crime scenes and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 24-year-old woman.

She was taken to Burwood Police Station where she was charged with assault with intent to rob whilst armed with an offensive weapon.

She was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Monday 28 May 2018).
