Police investigating an armed robbery near Newcastle have released CCTV footage in an appeal for public assistance.

About 11.10pm on Tuesday 3 July 2018, a man, armed with a knife, entered a service station on the corner of Newcastle Road and Douglas Street, Wallsend.

He threatened a male staff member before stealing cash and cigarettes, and fleeing the scene on foot.

No one was injured.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Investigators have released CCTV footage of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 25 to 35, and with blond facial hair. In the vision, he is shown to be wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants, grey running shoes and black gloves.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
