A 24-year-old man from Hobart’s northern suburbs will be extradited from Queensland today to face charges in relation to the July armed robbery of the Claremont Hotel Bottle Shop.

His arrest and extradition follows an extensive investigation across two states and he will face the Hobart Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

The robbery took place just before 7.30 pm on Friday 27 July 2018 when a man, with his face concealed, entered the bottle shop armed with a shortened gun. He demanded money from staff before leaving the bottleshop with cash.

The man was arrested by Queensland Detectives on Sunday night and appeared in the Caboolture District Court today after a joint investigation between Tasmania and Queensland Police.

Detective Inspector Craig Joel said:

“The man was handed over to Glenorchy CIB detectives today and will return to the state tonight.

“This was a brazen crime, with a significant impact on both the staff and the business.

“Staff acted courageously and in accordance with their training.

“Detectives are grateful for the information received from the local northern suburbs community,” he said.
