Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for information following a robbery at a St Kilda supermarket last month.

Investigators have been told a cashier was serving a customer at the Barkley Street store about 10am on 30 October.

As she opened the till to take out money, a man appeared behind her and stole the cash from her hands before running out of the store.

Two supermarket staff chased the man and tried to restrain him before a vehicle approached, with a woman exiting the car.

The two workers retreated back inside, with the woman and man fleeing in the car, described as a red Holden hatchback or similar.

Police have released images of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries, as well as a photo of the red hatchback.

The man was wearing black pants, a black jumper and black hooded jacket with grey lining.

He also wore a grey beanie.
