A man has been charged after a taxi driver was allegedly threatened with a firearm in Sydney’s west.

Just before 3.30pm yesterday (Saturday 17 November 2018), police were called to the Great Western Highway, near Church Street, Parramatta, after reports of an armed man.

Police have been told a taxi driver was threatened with a firearm after dropping off a person at a unit block on the Great Western Highway.

The driver was uninjured, and police were notified.

Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command attended and conducted a search of the surrounding area.

About 3.50pm, a 33-year-old man was arrested on Campbell Street.

Checks revealed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

He was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The man refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 18 November 2018).

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or the events leading up to it, to come forward.
