A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery in Frankston yesterday evening.

It is alleged a man with an edged weapon threatened an employee at a Nepean Highway service station shortly after 5.50pm.

He stole an amount of cash before fleeing the scene in a Holden Commodore.

An off-duty police officer sighted the Holden driving erratically in the vicinity of Oliver’s Hill where it crashed into a Nissan Navara.

The 24-year-old was arrested a short time later as he allegedly attempted to flee on foot towards the foreshore.

He has since been charged with armed robbery, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and a number of driving-related offences.

The man has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on 4 December.
