A man has been charged over several alleged armed robberies and a carjacking across Sydney last week.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were notified after an armed man threatened a 48-year-old man sitting in a Citroen C4 on Harris Street, near MacArthur Street, Ultimo, just before 9.30pm on Monday 7 January 2019.

It’s alleged the man threatened the driver with a knife, before demanding him out of the Citroen and driving away south on Harris Street.

An hour later, just after 10.30pm, a 47-year-old man and woman were seated in a black Mercedes GLC outside a fast food restaurant on Concord Road, North Strathfield, it’s alleged the armed man approached the vehicle and lunged at the driver with a knife through the open window.

The 47-year-old man drove away with the woman in the Mercedes unharmed.

Further reports were received that an unknown man armed with a knife approached two men – aged 22 and 24 – outside a restaurant on Rider Boulevard, Rhodes, about 10.45pm.

The armed man stole cash from the men and fled in the Citroen travelling north on Rider Boulevard.

Police will allege a short time later, a 25-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were sitting in an Audi RS6 parked on Rider Boulevard, near Mary Street, Rhodes, when an unknown man armed with a knife approached them and opened the driver’s door.

The pair exited the car and the man fled with cash in the Citroen parked nearby.

No one was injured during any of the incidents.

Detectives from Burwood Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, shortly before 5am on Wednesday 9 January 2019, a 56-year-old man was arrested at a unit in Ultimo and taken to hospital for assessment.

About 12pm today (Wednesday 16 January 2019), he was discharged and taken to Burwood Police Station where he was arrested.

The Glebe man was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, steal motor vehicle, aggravated robbery (x3), use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 17 January 2019).
