Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a fast food outlet in Sebastopol last night (21 January).

Investigators have been told a masked man entered a pizza store on Albert Street about 11pm and produced a knife before making demands for cash.

The attendant ran from the offender, who quickly left empty-handed and fled on foot along Rubicon Street.

It is believed he may have been headed towards Elsworth Street, Mount Pleasant.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police have today released images and CCTV footage of a man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.

He is perceived as Caucasian in appearance and about 180cm tall with a medium build.

The man was wearing a blue Fila cap, black jacket, black pants and black and white Nike runners.
