A man has been arrested with the assistance of an off duty police officer and a member of the public following a robbery at West Lakes last night.

It will be alleged just before 11pm, Friday 1 February, a man armed with a machete threatened staff at a bottle shop on Bartley Terrace before walking behind the counter and stealing cash.

The victim received a minor injury during the incident, thankfully the injury did not require medical treatment.

As the suspect fled the bottle shop, he stole a woman’s handbag that was on the ground next to her.

The off duty police officer and the member of the public chased the suspect into the car park and detained him until patrols arrived.

Officers searched the man and he was found in possession of the stolen cash, and the stolen handbag was located close by.

An 18-year-old man from Largs Bay was charged with aggravated robbery and theft. He has been refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrate Court on Monday.
