A man has been charged for an attempt aggravated robbery and aggravated assault after an incident in Modbury last week.

Just after 10.15am Friday 8 March police were called to Smart Road after reports a man had been assaulted after withdrawing an amount of money from an ATM.

The victim, an 81-year-old man, was approached by the suspect who demanded money. When the victim refused the suspect allegedly assaulted him with a knife before fleeing the scene. The victim received an injury to his hand as was taken to the Modbury Hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation police attended a home in Modbury on Monday 11 March and arrested a 39-year-old man from the address. He was charged with attempt aggravated robbery and aggravated assault and refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 12 March.
