A nightclub in Darlinghurst has been closed for 48 hours amid concerns for public health and safety.
About 9am yesterday (Saturday 23 July 2011), the Casino Liquor and Gaming Control Authority granted the notice after Kings Cross Police prepared a short term closure order pursuant to Section 82 of the Liquor Act 2007.
The Authority was satisfied that a serious breach of the Liquor Act was likely to occur at a rave party which had been planned to be held at the club in William Street between 10pm yesterday (Saturday 23 July 2011) and 6am today (Sunday 24 July 2011).
The Authority determined that there was a significant risk to public health and safety and granted the closure order for 48 hours from 12 midday yesterday (Saturday) until 12 midday tomorrow (Monday 25 July 2011).
The closure order has been served upon the Licensee and police are monitoring the premises to ensure compliance with the order.
Strike Force Integral, comprising officers from Redfern Regional Enforcement Squad, was formed in January 2011 to investigate the ongoing supply of prohibited drugs inside and within the vicinity of the nightclub.
As a result of the investigation, a number of people were arrested for offences including supply and possess prohibited drugs, deal in proceeds of crime, goods in custody, and possess implements.
