Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery in Sydney’s south west last night.

 About 8.40pm (Thursday 6 October 2011), a man wearing a balaclava walked into a service station on Fairfield Street, Fairfield, and threatened the console attendant with a handgun.

 The man demanded cash and cigarettes.

 The console attendant placed a sum of cash and a quantity of cigarettes into a garbage bag and gave it to the man.

 The man then left the store and ran east on Fairfield Street.

The 29-year-old male employee was not injured during the incident.

 Police attended the scene and conducted a search of the area, however, the man was not located.

 Detectives from Fairfield Local Area Command are continuing their investigations into the robbery.
