A man will face court today after being charged over alleged armed robberies at businesses in Sydney’s inner west.

About 3.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 1 May 2012), it is alleged that a man entered a business on Enmore Road, Enmore, armed with a knife.

The man apparently threatened the female shop assistant before fleeing, taking a sum of cash.

Police were called, and attended the location a short time later.

Around 4.45pm it is alleged the same man has entered a store on King Street, Newtown.

Police will allege the man again produced a knife and demanded money from a female shop assistant before fleeing the store with a sum of cash.

The man has then apparently entered another store on King Street, Newtown, attempting to steal items by concealing them on his person.

The store owner has witnessed the incident and approached the man and an altercation has taken place resulting in the store owner being assaulted.

The man has left the store after a member of the public has come to the assistance of the store owner.

Police from Newtown Local Area Command patrolled the area and identified the man with a description obtained from the initial armed hold up in Enmore Road, Enmore.

Police arrested the man on King Street, Newtown.

Proceeds from the King Street, Newtown robberies were recovered along with the alleged knife.

Money from the Enmore Road, Enmore armed hold up is still outstanding.

The man was taken to Newtown Police Station for questioning.

He was charged with armed robbery (x 2), common assault, steal from a retail store, malicious damage and armed with an offensive weapon.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Newtown Local Court today.
