Police are appealing for witnesses following the armed robbery of a supermarket at Berkeley in the Illawarra region yesterday.

About 6.30am (Sunday 20 May 2012), a man and woman where preparing to open the Kelly Street store when two men, armed with knives, entered.

The pair took an amount of cash from the premises before stabbing the 53-year-old woman in her arm.

The men then ran from the store.

Police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command and other emergency services attended the scene.

The woman was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment for the wound. The man was not injured during the incident.

A crime scene was established which was examined by forensic specialists.

Both men have been described as 20 to 30 years of age, 170cm to 175cm tall with a medium build. They were wearing dark-coloured clothing, white shoes and a black cloth covering his face.
