A man has been charged after the alleged armed robbery of a fast food restaurant in Sydney’s west today.

About 12.50pm, a 40-year-old man caught a taxi to the restaurant on Third Avenue, Blacktown.

The taxi waited out the front as the man entered the store and allegedly demanded cash from the console operator.

It is alleged the man threatened to shoot the console operator. No gun was produced but a knife was allegedly sighted in his possession.

After being handed a small amount of cash, the man left the restaurant and entered the same taxi he came in.

A short time police, officers from Blacktown Local Area Command sighted the taxi at the intersection of Third Avenue and Kildare Road.

Police stopped the taxi and arrested the 40-year-old man. Police allegedly located a knife under the passenger seat.

He was taken to Blacktown Police Station where he was charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon.

He was refused bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 6 June 2012).
