Police have charged a man following an alleged attempted armed robbery at Tweed Heads.

About 3pm yesterday (Thursday 7 June 2012), a 26-year-old man allegedly entered the loading dock of a supermarket, located within a shopping centre at the intersection of Wharf and Bay Streets, and confronted two staff members.

He allegedly produced a replica pistol and demanded cash.

The employees spoke with the man for a short time before he left the area and was seen to get into a small yellow sedan.

Police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command were contacted and commenced an investigation.

About 4.30pm (Thursday 7 June 2012), police located the sedan in Fraser Drive, Tweed Heads South.

Police will allege they searched the 26-year-old Goonellabah man and located a replica pistol.

He was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was subsequently charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, assault officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty and intimidate police officer in execution duty.

He was refused bail to appear at Tweed Head Local Court today (Friday 8 June 2012).
