Police have arrested and charged a 30-year-old man for the armed robberies of four taxi drivers in western Sydney over the last week.

About 4.15am on Saturday 2 June 2012, a 30-year-old taxi driver picked up a man in Pyrmont. The man, who sat in the rear of the vehicle, asked the driver to take him to Eastbourne Road in Homebush West. When the cab arrived at the location, the passenger produced a large knife and demanded the driver hand over cash. The man then fled the scene on foot.

About 11.25pm on Sunday 3 June 2012, a 48-year-old taxi driver collected a man from George Street in Sydney. The man asked to be driven to Eastbourne Road in Homebush West however, when the taxi arrived at the requested location, he produced a knife and robbed the driver, before leaving the scene on foot.

About 12.30am on Wednesday (6 June 2012), a man flagged down a taxi on Broadway in Ultimo and asked the driver to take him to Burwood. When the vehicle arrived at the requested location on Gordon Street, the man grabbed the driver from behind and threatened him with a large knife. The driver handed over a small amount of cash before the man ran from the scene.

About 1.10am on Friday (8 June 2012), a 51-year-old taxi driver picked up a man on George Street in Haymarket. The man sat in the rear of the vehicle and asked the driver to take him to Gordon Street in Burwood. Upon arriving at the location, the passenger produced a large knife, robbed the driver and ran from the car.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 30-year-old man at a casino in Pyrmont at 1pm yesterday (Saturday 9 June 2012).

He was charged with four counts of robbery while armed with an offensive weapon and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 10 June 2012).
