A man is due to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today charged after a police officer was allegedly threatened with a knife in Kings Cross overnight.

A sergeant and constable from Kings Cross Police Station were patrolling Darlinghurst Road at Potts Point about 11.30pm yesterday (14 December), when they were told about a man acting suspiciously inside a club.

The officers went to investigate and spoke with a 45-year-old man inside the club.

Police will allege when the man attempted to escape a struggle ensued, during which the man produced a box cutter and swung out at the sergeant.

The man’s 27-year-old girlfriend became involved and suffered a slash wound to her upper right thigh.

The sergeant managed to disarm the man and he was held until officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad broke down a door and took the man into custody.

The woman, from Queanbeyan, was treated at St Vincent’s Hospital.

The man has now been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and resisting arrest. He will be appearing via video link in Parramatta Bail Court later today.
