Two bag snatchers have been arrested after crashing their getaway car during a police pursuit in Sydney’s southwest.
Two men stole a 43-year-old woman’s handbag as she stood in a supermarket car park on Elizabeth Drive, Bonnyrigg, just before 6pm yesterday (Thursday 14 February 2013).
Police spotted the offenders getting into the back of a Nissan Pathfinder four-wheel-drive being driven by another man.
Officers tried to intercept the vehicle as it sped from the scene but were unsuccessful.
The Nissan was pursued to the intersection of Aplin and North Liverpool Roads where it lost control and crashed into a fence and street light.
The driver was arrested at the scene, while another man was taken into custody a short distance away
A 26-year-old man was charged with stealing; police pursuit – not stop (Skye’s Law); and drive whilst suspended.
He was refused bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court today (Friday 15 February 2013).
A 25-year-old man was charged with stealing and conditionally bailed to appear in Fairfield Local Court on Monday 4 March 2013.
Investigations are continuing to identify and locate the other man involved in the stealing.
Meanwhile, a pregnant woman who was travelling in the front seat of the four-wheel-drive was also questioned by police but released without charge.
