A man has been arrested following the alleged armed robbery of a supermarket in Toowoomba last night.

About 8.15pm a man entered the James Street store and selected items from shelves, allegedly placing them in his pockets.

He then approached the front counter and allegedly threatened the female attendant with a knife while making demands for money.

He fled the store on foot with a sum of cash.

A 17-year-old local man was later arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery. He remains in custody and is due to appear before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court later this morning.
