A man has been arrested following an aggravated robbery at a Hawthorn service station overnight.

Police will allege just before 12.30am the man entered the BP On the Run at the intersection of Belair Road and Cross Road and threatened the staff member, intimating that he was armed with a gun.

No firearm was produced and the attendant refused to hand over any money.  The thief instead stole other items, including chocolates and flowers, and fled on foot.

At about 2am, police received information that a man matching the description of the suspect was at the Mitcham Shopping Centre.

The 20-year-old man from Daw Park was arrested and charged with the aggravated robbery.  He was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
