Police have arrested and charged a 24-year-old man from Geelong with attempted robbery at a Service Station in Mount Gambier early this morning.
At about 4am, the man walked into the Commercial Road station, told staff he had a knife and demanded money.
No knife was seen and when staff refused to hand over money the man fled.
Police arrived soon after and with the assistance of staff pointing in the direction where the suspect ran off, he was found within minutes hiding down the side of a nearby house.
The man was refused police bail and will appear in the Mount Gambier Police Station later today.
