A male youth riding a BMX style bike has robbed a bottle shop at knife point at Mittagong in the southern highlands of New South Wales overnight.

About 7.25pm, (Wednesday 3 April, 2013), a 35-year-old shop assistant was placing rubbish outside the Victoria Street bottle shop, when she noticed a bike at the front door.

As she walked back in the store she noticed a young male placing a number of bottles of spirits and cigarettes into his backpack.

As the male noticed the shop attendant he produced a large knife from his pants and rushed towards the assistant. He demanded she open the till and he removed a small amount of cash before leaving the store.

The male left  and rode west along Victoria Street.

The female attendant was not injured during the incident.

Police attended and a crime scene was established and investigations are continuing.
