A teenager will appear in court today after being charged with an armed robbery at Strathfield yesterday afternoon.
About 4.30pm on Friday 19 April a 40-year-old man and an 18-year-old man left a real estate agency on Churchill Avenue to attend to the days banking.
Shortly after leaving the premises the two men were accosted by four males, one armed with a firearm, who demanded money.
The younger man produced his wallet and it was seized along with a bag, containing cash and cheques, carried by the older man. No one was injured during the incident.
An employee of the real estate agent was alerted to the incident by a scream and chased the four males as they fled into a pedestrian underpass, along Everton Road and into a nearby laneway.
Police will allege that one of the males tripped and fell and was detained by the employee and onlookers.
He was taken to the real estate agency and arrested by attending police from Flemington Local Area Command.
The man was taken to Concord Hospital for treatment to minor grazes and then taken to Auburn Police Station.
The 17-year-old Lakemba youth was later charged with robbery whilst armed with offensive weapon and assault with intent to rob armed with offensive weapon.
He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Children’s Court today.
