Police have charged a man with the armed robbery of a betting agency in Sydney’s southwest yesterday.

About 4pm yesterday (Sunday 5 May), staff and patrons at the betting shop on Anderson Avenue in Panania were threatened with a knife.

An amount of cash was stolen but nobody was injured.

Police from Bankstown Local Area Command established a crime scene and interviewed the victims and witnesses.

A short time before 2pm today, police stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Eton and Flora streets in Sutherland.

Officers arrested the 26-year-old male driver in relation to the armed robbery and he was taken to Sutherland Police Station.

Detectives from Bankstown interviewed the man and subsequently charged him with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon and driving whilst disqualified.
