Police from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a convenience store in Kensington overnight.

About 10.30pm, (Wednesday 15 May, 2013), a man wearing black clothing and had his face covered with cloth, entered the Anzac Parade store armed with a large knife.

He approached the counter and demanded money from the male attendant.

He grabbed an amount of cash from the till then made further threats and told the attendant he wanted cash from the safe.

The attendant walked into the store room where the safe was kept and managed to lock himself in.

The man ran from the store and was seen running east, heading down Goodwood Street.

Officers arrived on scene and located the shop attendant in the store room. He was not hurt during the incident.

Inquiries are continuing.
