A man has been charged for an attempt aggravated robbery and aggravated assault after an incident in Modbury last week.

Just after 10.15am Friday 8 March police were called to Smart Road after reports a man had been assaulted after withdrawing an amount of money from an ATM.

The victim, an 81-year-old man, was approached by the suspect who demanded money. When the victim refused the suspect allegedly assaulted him with a knife before fleeing the scene. The victim received an injury to his hand as was taken to the Modbury Hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation police attended a home in Modbury on Monday 11 March and arrested a 39-year-old man from the address. He was charged with attempt aggravated robbery and aggravated assault and refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 12 March.

Armed Crime Squad detectives have made a breakthrough in their investigation into a series of western Victorian burglaries and thefts of automatic teller machines (ATM’s) with the arrest of three men early this morning.

The men, a 34-year-old from Wendouree, 38-year-old from Haddon and a 41-year-old from Brown Hill were arrested with the assistance of Ballarat Divisional Response Unit, about 7am following the execution of five warrants in:

– King Street Ballarat, East

– Head Street, Wendouree

– Spring Court, Corindhap

– Wilsons Road, Haddon and

– Ryan Street, Brown Hill

The arrests follow an extensive investigation into seven burglaries, thefts and attempted thefts on a variety of business premises including:

– A community centre in Beaufort on 29 November 2018

– A book shop in Creswick on 14 December 2018

– An opportunity shop in Skipton on 15 December 2018

– A bank in Dunkeld on 29 December 2018

– A community centre in Lake Bolac on 29 December 2018

– A marina in Queenscliff on 13 January 2019

– A newsagency in Clunes on Monday 4 March 2019

On each occasion it is alleged the thieves targeted ATMs with either heavy equipment vehicles used to crash through street shop fronts or equipment used to force entry to the premises.

Police have released images of the most recent incident and damage at Clunes.

It is alleged a substantial sum of money was stolen during some of the break-ins.

Detectives have seized a number of firearms, cars, grinders, a sledgehammer and items believed to be related to the ATM thefts.

The trio are currently assisting police with their enquiries and are expected to appear at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court later today.

Detectives have released CCTV as inquiries continue into a robbery at a bank in Marrickville yesterday.

About 3.45pm (Thursday 21 February 2019), a man entered the bank on Marrickville Road and approached a teller.

The man originally requested to set up a bank account; however, stole a sum of cash from another staff member before fleeing.

It’s unknown what direction the man ran in.

The man was not armed, and no one was injured during the incident.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

As inquiries continue, detectives have released CCTV footage in an attempt to identify and locate the man involved.

The man in the footage is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 180cm tall with short dark hair.

He is depicted wearing a black t-shirt with white print, dark shorts and thongs.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

A man has faced court charged over the alleged armed robbery of a man at South Tamworth earlier this week.

About 3.30pm on Tuesday (12 February 2019), a 35-year man had used an ATM at a shopping centre on Robert Street when he was confronted by a man armed with a knife.

It’s alleged the man was threatened and robbed of his cash before the armed man fled.

Officers from Oxley Police District were notified and launched an investigation.

Following inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Central Avenue, Tamworth, on Friday (15 February 2019).

An 18-year-old man was located asleep inside and arrested.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, and armed with intent commit indictable offence

The Tamworth man appeared in Tamworth Local Court today (Saturday 16 February 2019) and was refused bail to appear at the same court on Monday (18 February 2019).

Police have released CCTV images of a man following investigations into an armed robbery at an ATM in Tamworth on Tuesday (12 February 2019).

A 35-year-old man was using the ATM at a shopping complex on Robert Street just before 4pm, when he was approached from behind.

A man, described as being Caucasian, 18-25 years-old with a slim build, with short brown hair and a tattoo on his right shoulder and wearing a black “Everlast” singlet, green shorts and black joggers, allegedly threatened the man with a machete and demanded cash.

The man at the ATM complied with the demand before the machete-wielding man left the scene.

Investigators have released CCTV images of a man they believe may be able to assist them with inquiries.

Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery at Maroubra.

About 7pm (Saturday 19 January 2019), a 71-year-old man attended a shopping centre on Anzac Parade, withdrawing cash from an ATM.

Whilst returning to his car in the carpark of the shopping centre, the man was approached by another man, who threatened him with a knife.

The victim handed the man cash. The offender then walked away, crossing Anzac Parade and walking down Alma Road.

The offender was then seen to walk back and re-enter the carpark before he was lost sight of.

The incident was reported to police from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command, who commenced an investigation.

The man has been described as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, 20-30 years old, olive skin, a moustache, and he was wearing a light blue hooded jumper with a large pocket at the front and white motif, shorts and shoes.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Campaspe Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for help after thieves damaged an ATM and stole money from a Tongala bank overnight.

It is believed two males attended the Mangan Street bank shortly before 3am this morning (12 December) and used an excavator to break into the front wall of the bank, causing significant damage to both the building and an ATM.

The pair stole a number of cash boxes to an unknown value before activating the alarm and fleeing.

It is believed the excavator, along with a truck located behind the bank, was stolen from an address on Apollo Drive, Shepparton about 1.15am.

Witnesses have reported seeing a white duel cab and dark grey wagon near the front of the bank about a short time before police were called.

Investigators believe both vehicles are linked to the incident.

Just after 11am on Thursday 5 April 2018, two armed guards were intercepted by a silver Volkswagen Golf as they exited their armoured truck for a delivery on Mackinder Street, Clemton Park.

Two men, both allegedly armed with rifles, got out of the Golf and threatened the guards, demanding cash.

One of the men allegedly approached the guards, and unsuccessfully attempted to remove one of their firearms, before stealing the cash bags and returning to the Golf, which was then driven from the location at speed.

The guards were not physically injured during the incident.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command attended a short time later and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Callagher to investigate the incident.

A 35-year-old man – the alleged getaway driver – was charged by investigators last month. He remains before the courts.

Following further investigations, strike force detectives, assisted by the Public Order and Riot Squad, executed five search warrants at Cambridge Park, Berkshire Park, Castlereagh, and Emu Plains, from 6am today (Wednesday 5 December 2018).

During the warrants, police seized several items relevant to the investigation, including cash, firearms, a boat and a Holden Senator sedan.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the Cambridge Park home and taken to Penrith Police Station.

He was charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon, two counts of possession of more than three firearms, five counts of possess prohibited weapon, possession of tablet press, six counts of supply prohibited drugs, and two counts of deal with property suspected of being proceeds of crime.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today.

Investigations under Strike Force Callagher are continuing.

Police will allege in court that the man drove the Volkswagen to and from the area and demanded cash while armed with a firearm.

The Cambridge Park man was refused bail to appear at Coonabarabran Local Court today.

Shortly after the arrest, strike force investigators, assisted by the Public Order and Riot Squad, executed two search warrants at homes at Cambridge Park and Shanes Park

During the searches, detectives seized two pistols, cash, and a number of items relevant to the investigation.

The firearms will undergo forensic and ballistic examination.

As investigations continue, strike force detectives have released CCTV which depicts a silver Volkswagen, with dark tinted windows and distinctive wheels, arriving on Mackinder Street.

An armed man, with his face covered, is depicted getting out of the passenger side and approaching the security guards, before taking cash bags and fleeing the scene in the car.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who knows the identity of the man, or who has information that may assist with their inquiries, to come forward.
