Police are appealing for witnesses after a 38-year-old man was attacked at a St Kilda hotel over the weekend.
Detectives said the man was at a hotel on Fitzroy Street when he was approached and assaulted by another man just after midnight on Sunday morning.
The man was punched several times to the face causing him to fall down, whilst the offender continued to assault him.
It’s alleged the male offender immediately fled the scene with two other women and a man.
He is described as Caucasian in appearance, medium build, about 183 cm tall with short dark hair.
He was wearing jeans and a light coloured t shirt.
The injured St Kilda man was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he was treated for facial fractures.

Police performing an automatic number plate recognition system operation arrested a man and woman last night in a stolen car which consequently linked them a previous armed robbery.
Melbourne West police intercepted the Toyota Tarago in Wurundjeri Way, Melbourne about 7.45pm.
A search of the car uncovered imitation firearms and other items believed to be used during the armed robbery in Braybrook on 22 May.
Three search warrants were executed this morning in Sunshine, Newport and Laverton where police seized further items in connection with the robbery.
The 33-year-old man and 31-year-old woman continue to assist police with their enquiries
Police are investigating a burglary on an ATM at a bank on Aviation Road, Laverton about 4am
Police said the back safe section of the ATM had been taken in the raid.
Investigators are trying to establish if explosives were used by the burglars during the theft as there was a report of an explosion at the time the ATM was taken.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen a vehicle in the area at the time or has any information in relation to the matter to contact them.
The exit ramp to and from the Princes Freeway is blocked at Aviation Road.

Armed Crime Task Force investigators have arrested two men in relation to an armed robbery in 2003.
The armed robbery is alleged to have taken place at a travel agency in Camberwell on 25 March that year, with cash and travellers cheques stolen from staff members at gunpoint.
It is also alleged the stolen travellers cheques were fraudulently used both in Australia and overseas.
A 49-year-old Castlemaine man and a 45-year-old Corio man are due to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court this morning charged with armed robbery, aggravated burglary and false imprisonment.

The man was sitting at a desk in an office with his back to the door when two men broke into the premises.
It’s alleged the two men, armed with planks of wood, assaulted the man before stealing an amount of cash.
The man was knocked to the floor and struck across the head and body being left with a laceration to his face.
His attackers are described as Caucasian with thin builds and both were wearing beanies.
One man was wearing a distinctive red, flannelette jacket.

Police have charged a man with firearm and other offences after they intercepted a car in Broadmeadows about 11.50pm last night.
Police saw a suspect vehicle in Barry Road and pulled the car over to check the driver.
When police searched the boot of the vehicle they found a pistol.
Police also found a quantity of cash on the driver as well as a mask in the rear seat of the car.
A 22-year-old man from Meadow Heights has been charged with weapon offences, possessing the proceeds of crime and possessing an article of disguise.
The man has been bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrate’s Court in July.
A man armed with a knife escaped with cash following an armed robbery at Smithfield Road, Kensington.
Police said the bandit who wore a ski mask and was armed with a knife entered the liquor store about 9.55 pm last night.
He then made demands from staff before jumping over the counter and taking money and cigarettes.
After taking the money and cigarettes he escaped through a gateway in a nearby fence.
Police called in a Dog Squad unit to search for the bandit but he escaped.

A pizza delivery man was robbed at knife-point in Reservoir about 8.45 pm last night.
The man was delivering a phone order to Daventry Street and parked his car opposite the address when he noticed a man in the driveway of the premises.
When he got out of his car four males, who were thought to have been hiding nearby, ran towards him.
One of the males produced a knife and threatened the victim with it.
The man who had been in the driveway also came over and joined the others.
The victim handed over his phone, wallet, money pouch, car keys and the pizza he had with him.
The bandits then got into his car and drove away.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an armed robbery in Springvale earlier last week.
Two men, aged 30-years-old from Springvale, were walking home along Springvale Road, when they were approached by three men from the opposite side of the road at 1.45am on 9 May.
Two of the unknown men produced two knives and demanded money from the victims.
One of the victims tried to flee, but was stopped by the men.
The offenders stole the victim’s wallets, mobile phone and backpack, before running down Red Hill Road in a westerly direction.
Police are on the hunt for a dark coloured two door vehicle, which was seen leaving Red Hill Road just after the incident.

Three shots were fired into a car during an attempted armed robbery in Plumpton early this morning.
Police were called to City Vista Court after a report that shots had been fired during an armed robbery about 12.40am.
Investigators were told three people, an 18-year-old man from Mill Park, 19-year-old woman from Templestowe and 17-year-old woman from Thomastown, were driving in an unfamiliar area and pulled over to turn on their GPS.
While stationary, a red VX Holden Commodore has pulled up behind their vehicle and shot out a tyre.
A man with a firearm has approached the vehicle, thrusting the weapon through the partially opened driver’s window and demanding money and phones.
He has then shot out a second tyre.
Despite having two flat tyres, the driver has rapidly accelerated from the scene.
The offender has then fired another shot at the car, shattering the back window.
The male backseat passenger received minor injuries from the broken glass.
Police are now searching for the gunman.
