On Wednesday 22 June 2011, Detectives from the Bellerive and Hobart Criminal Investigation Branches charged a Rokeby man with 22 business burglaries. The burglaries occurred in the south of the state over the last eight weeks.
The premises involved are:
Hill St Grocer, Lauderdale on 5/4 and 25/4
IGA Supermarket, Dover on 18/4
Snug Tavern, Snug on 24/4
Night Owl Take Away, Huonville on 21/4 and 3/5
United Service Station, Clarence on 9/5
Jean Pascall Café, Bellerive on 9/5
Kingston Take Away, Kingston on 10/5 and 11/5
IGA Oatlands on 12/5
IGA Cygnet on 15/5
Woolworths Shoreline on 16/5
BP Lauderdale on 20/5
Bayview Store, Blackmans Bay on 20/5
Lenah Valley News, Lenah Valley on 23/5
Shoreline Hotel Bottleshop on 26/5
Southern Machinery Services, Kingston on 26/6
Woolworths New Norfolk on 28/5
BP Claremont on 28/5
Woolworths Lindisfarne on 28/5
Poolmart, Hobart on 4/6
The approximate value of stolen cash and cigarettes is $90,000.
The approximate value of the damaged caused during these burglaries is $22,000.
The man has been bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.
“Cigarettes are a high value target for thieves and businesses need to take appropriate security measures to make it as difficult as possible to prevent their theft,” said Detective Inspector Colin Riley.
