Police are investigating the armed robbery of a bottle shop in Chippendale and the robbery of a taxi driver at Surry Hills yesterday.
About 4:35pm, Sunday 12 October 2014, a man entered the store on Abercrombie Street, Chippendale and proceeded to the fridges where he selected some alcoholic beverages.
The man then walked to the counter where he produced a broken beer bottle from his shorts and threatened a 23-year-old man who was working in the store. He was given cash from the register before leaving with the money and stolen alcohol.
Police were contacted and attended the store where they established a crime scene which was examined by forensic officers.
Investigators believe the incident may also be linked to the robbery of a taxi driver at Surry Hills later in the evening.
About 6:35pm, a 48-year-old man was driving a taxi along High Holborn Street, Surry Hills when his male passenger told him to stop.
The man threatened him with a broken beer bottle and demanded cash before being handed money and running off towards Cleveland Street.
Detectives from Redfern and Surry Hills Local Area Command’s are looking for a man described as being of Caucasian appearance, 30-40 years old, 170-175cm tall with a medium/stocky build, clean shaven with a reddish complexion.
The man, who had heavily tattooed arms and legs, was wearing a blue t-shirt and white shorts.
