A man and woman have been charged over an alleged attempted armed robbery in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 11.45am (Saturday 29 November 2014), a man entered a pharmacy on the Hume Highway at Bass Hill, allegedly armed with two large knives.

It’s alleged the man approached three employees – a man and two women – and demanded prescription medication.

One of the employees threw a box at the man before he fled empty-handed.

The man left the area in a car that was being driven by a woman.

Members of the public followed the car. When it stopped on Mundamatta Street, they attempted to remove the keys from the ignition; however, they were unsuccessful.

Police were alerted and officers from Bankstown Local Area Command attended and conducted a canvass of the area.

A short time later, the car was stopped by police at the intersection of Belar Avenue and Alcoomie Street at Villawood.

The 21-year-old woman and 26-year-old man were arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

They were both charged with attempted armed robbery and refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 30 November 2014).

Inquiries are continuing and police are appealing for the members of the public who attempted to stop the pair in Villawood, to come forward.
