Police are appealing for public assistance following an armed robbery in Sydney’s south-west.

About 1.20pm yesterday (27 June), two men, one armed with a knife, the other possibly a screwdriver, entered the financial institution on Haldon Street, Lakemba, and threatened employees.

Police will allege the men demanded cash and assaulted an employee.

Both men left with a sum of cash in a black Holden VT Commodore.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police from Campsie Local Area Command attended the scene and conducted inquiries.

About 1.30pm, a witness told police three males were changing registration plates between a black Holden VT Commodore and a purple Toyota Tarago in Armitree Street, Kingsgrove.

About 2.15pm, police located the purple Toyota Tarago in Mimosa Road, Greenacre, and arrested the two male occupants.

A third man approached police and, it is alleged, he hindered and assaulted the officers.

All three men were taken to Campsie Police Station.

A 39-year-old man was charged with assault police, resist arrest and hinder. He has been granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Burwood Local Court on 21 July 2011.
