Stonington CIU detectives are investigating an aggravated burglary at a retail business in South Melbourne on 20 June.

Staff members at the store on Clarendon Street were assaulted by two armed men that entered the premises.

Just after 4pm one of the offenders rang the doorbell and was buzzed through by an employee and walked into the display area of the store when a second offender rang the doorbell.

A second employee who was situated upstairs, buzzed the second offender into the premises.

The first offender approached one of the staff members, pulling a tyre iron from his sock and struck him to the head. The confrontation then moved to the back office where the victim has managed to get the tyre iron and use it to defend himself.

The victim managed to call triple 0 and the first offender then left the premises.

The second offender went upstairs and confronted the second employee, demanding cash which was handed over. The offender then disconnected the CCTV hard drive and punched the employee in the face.

The first employee ran up stairs to assist his workmate. A scuffle broke out, the second offender then left the premises.

The first offender is described as Caucasian, 175-180cm tall, short dark hair, and a goatee. He was wearing a white hooded jumper, tracksuit pants and one white glove.

The second offender was wearing a black top, black stretch pants, sunglasses and a black balaclava.
