Police are appealing for public assistance following an armed robbery in Marrickville yesterday.

Shortly after 7.30pm (Wednesday 20 July 2011), two employees were at a café onChapel Streetwhen they interrupted two men attempting to force entry.

The employees, a 36-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, were then forced back into the café before the men, who were armed with knives, demanded the keys to a Subaru Impreza WRX which was parked outside.

The men then fled in the WRX, belonging to the 36-year-old employee, and were last seen driving onVictoria Road.

Officers from Marrickville Local Area Command were notified and attended a short time later.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen the car, to come forward.

The men had their faces concealed during the incident however both are described as being approximately 170cm tall and of slim build.

 The car is a white late-model Subaru Impreza WRX with registration plates GR2011
