A youth has been charged following the armed robbery of a convenience store at Newtown last month.
About 11:50pm, Monday 22 August 2011, three males, one armed with a knife, entered the convenience store on King Street, Newtown.
Two of the males allegedly jumped the counter and held the shop assistant to the ground while holding a knife to his face.
The three robbers then allegedly stole money from the register and cigarettes from the display before the shop assistant was able to break free and run from the store.
His attackers then fled the store and were seen to get into a white Toyota sedan and leave the area.
Police attended the shop and established a crime scene which was examined by specialist forensic officers.
It will be alleged subsequent examinations of fingerprint evidence identified a 16-year-old boy as being involved in the robbery.
Yesterday Newtown Detectives attended premises in Illawarra Road, Marrickville where they arrested the teenager.
He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon and refused bail to appear in Bidura Children’s Court today (Thursday 13 October 2011).
Investigations into the armed robbery are continuing.
