A man has been charged with a number of offences after being located with a stolen vehicle in Sydney’s south-west yesterday.

About 2.55pm (Sunday 15 January 2012), police responded to reports of a man breaking into an Audi on Glatton Road, Glenfield.

Police attended and located a man moving property from the Audi into a silver Mercedes, which had been stolen during a break-in at Smithfield on Wednesday (11 January 2012).

The man jumped out of the Audi through a window and climbed into the front seat of the Mercedes.

Officers attempted to restrain the man, as he attempted to drive the Mercedes from the location.

The man accelerated harshly and one of the police officers jumped out of the way to avoid being hit by the Mercedes.

The Mercedes then reversed harshly and crashed into another car parked on the street.

Police arrested the man after an officer was able to open the driver’s side door and remove him from the Mercedes.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for assessment before being taken to Macquarie Fields Police Station.

The 28-year-old man was subsequently charged with ten counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception and one count each of steal property in dwelling, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, larceny, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and assault officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Monday 16 January 2012).
