Police from the Tweed-Byron Local Area Command are appealing for public assistance following the robbery of a Salvation Army Officer today.

Shortly after 5pm, (Monday 23 May), a 53-year-old man who works for the Salvation Army collecting donations, had finished his duties at the Tweed City Shopping Centre, Tweed Heads.

As the victim walked back to his vehicle with his collection tin he was pushed from behind by a man who was attempting to steal the donations.

A scuffle ensured between the two men resulting in the Salvation Army officer receiving two small stab wounds to his back.

The man, who has been described as Caucasian in appearance and aged in his twenties, about 170cm tall with a medium build and wearing dark coloured track pants with a light blue rain jacket, ran from the scene with the collection tin.

The victim was taken to Tweed Hospital where he was treated and later released.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have information that can assist the investigation, to contact Tweed-Bryon Police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
