Police are appealing for witnesses to an altercation in Sydney this morning which resulted in a man being struck to the face with a schooner glass.

About 11.30pm yesterday (Friday 3 February 2012), police believe a 22-year-old man and 23-year-old man began to physically fight inside a licensed premise on King Street, Newtown.

Police have been told the 20-year-old girlfriend of the younger man then threw a schooner glass at the head of the other man.

The trio were removed from the premises by security guards and police from Newtown Local Command attended a short time later.

The 23-year-old man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he received treatment for two cuts to his face.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old man was taken to the Sydney Eye Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the fight.

Police are investigating the matter and are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Newtown Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
