Police performing an automatic number plate recognition system operation arrested a man and woman last night in a stolen car which consequently linked them a previous armed robbery.

Melbourne West police intercepted the Toyota Tarago in Wurundjeri Way, Melbourne about 7.45pm.

A search of the car uncovered imitation firearms and other items believed to be used during the armed robbery in Braybrook on 22 May.

Three search warrants were executed this morning in Sunshine, Newport and Laverton where police seized further items in connection with the robbery.

The 33-year-old man and 31-year-old woman continue to assist police with their enquiries
