Police are investigating the armed robbery of a bakery in Carindale early this morning.

Preliminary investigations indicate a man armed with a knife entered the Old Cleveland Road store at around 4.45am and threatened the male owner and demanded cash.

The man stole a sum of cash and went to leave the business when the owner has attempted to chase him. An altercation took place resulting in the employee receiving minor facial and arm injuries.

The man left the scene driving a black Nissan 180 SX, and was last seen heading west along Old Cleveland Road.

The man is described as being of African appearance, around 24 to 25 years of age, 183-190cm tall, with a solid build. He was wearing a red t-shirt and shorts.
