Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery of a fast food restaurant in Newcastle yesterday.

About 6.15am (Monday 13 February 2012), a man, armed with a knife, entered the fast food restaurant on Blue Gum Road, Jesmond and walked to the counter.

The man allegedly demanded a 27-year-old employee hand over cash.

The employee called out to another employee to call the police and the man left the store.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended the store and established a crime scene, which was examined by forensic specialists.

The man has been described as 183cm tall with a skinny build. He was wearing a grey coloured balaclava, a navy long-sleeve jumper and grey tracksuit pants.
