Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Wynnum finance store this afternoon in which a sum of money was stolen by a man with a firearm.

Around 5.20pm, a man entered the Edith Street store and threatened the 20-year-old female employee with a firearm before taking a sum of cash and fleeing.

The man was wearing a High Visibility work freezer jacket and pants, a maroon singlet and a blue balaclava at the time.

He is described as having shortly shaved hair, approximately 35 to 40 years of age, 160 to 170cm tall, and of a slim build.

The female employee was not physically injured during the incident.
