A critical incident investigation team has been formed to investigate the death of a man in Sydney’s CBD this morning.

About 5.30am police were called to a convenience store on King Street at The Rocks following reports of a robbery. Police attended the scene; however, the man left prior to their arrival.

Police conducted patrols of the area, locating a man in Pitt Street, Sydney.

The male resisted police who were attempting to arrest him. During the confrontation, officers deployed OC spray and a Taser.

The man stopped breathing and police began CPR; despite efforts by police and Paramedics the man could not be revived.

A crime scene has been established on Pitt Street between Liverpool and Bathurst Streets.

A critical incident investigation team comprising officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad has been formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

This investigation will be reviewed by senior officers from the Professional Standards Command.
