Police have charged two men following an incident in which a taxi driver was allegedly assaulted and robbed at Aspley this morning.

Around 5.45am the taxi pulled over on Gympie Road before two male passengers became involved in a verbal altercation with the 46-year-old male driver.

It will be alleged the men repeatedly punched the victim in the head, causing facial injuries.

Cash and a mobile phone belonging to the driver were stolen and the vehicle was damaged during the incident.

A 21-year-old Murrumba Downs man and a 25-year-old Dakabin man were both charged with one count each of robbery in company and wilful damage.

They are due to appear in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court tomorrow.
