Police are investigating the armed robbery of a bottle shop at Newport today in which an attendant was threatened with a firearm.

Just before midday, a man and a woman entered the Griffith Road store and produced a firearm before demanding the female employee hand over cash from the till.

The attendant complied and provided a sum of cash to the woman.

Before fleeing the store, the pair stole the employee’s handbag and a quantity of alcohol.

There was no one else in the store at the time and no one was physically injured during the incident.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, in his 30s, approximately 190cm tall with a thin build and facial hair.

He was wearing dark tracksuit pants and a blue zip up spray jacket.

The woman is described as being Caucasian in appearance, in her 30s, about 170cm tall with a heavy build and blonde shoulder-length hair.

She was wearing a tank top with tracksuit pants and a grey beanie.
